More on How to Grip a 4 Seam Fastball

To elaborate a bit on my last posting here are some additional tidbits on how to properly grip a 4 seam fastball. Please read these baseball pitching tips carefully.

To begin with, place your index and middle fingertips across the seam of the fastball, going perpendicular to the seam.

The horseshoe of the seam should be facing in towards your ring finger of your throwing hand.4-Seam Fastball Grip

Then take your thumb an place it directly under the baseball. Your thumb should not be touching the seams and only the flesh of the baseball.

Grip the ball delicately in your fingertips and leave a bit of a gap between the baseball and your palm. The ball when gripped should not go past your 1st knuckle on your index finger.

The objective to the 4-seam fastball is maximum velocity and spin. If you keep the ball tense and tight in your fand, you minimize the velocity and speed which the ball can leave your hand. Keep the grip loose so you can get the most out of your fastball.

Next post, we will talk more on how to effectively use the 4-seam fastball.
