I’ve read a few impressive articles recently about the Yankees’ Joba Chamberlain and his willingness to receive tips and advice from multiple parties. 2 Weeks back, I was reading about Joba’s handicapped father and his abilities to give the proper pitching tips to help him get to the majors.
This afternoon, I read that Roger Clemens has been helping Joba even further on their trip out the Anaheim. My favorite quote:
“You’ve got to be a sponge,” Chamberlain said. “Especially when he talks. You understand why he’s been so successful.”
That’s an understatement Joba!
The discussions between Clemens and Chamberlain have focused mainly on pitching mechanics. But Clemens also emphasizes physical conditioning.
“Sometimes he comes up to me without me asking,” Chamberlain said. “And sometimes I go to him and talk about whatever. It doesn’t necessarily have to be baseball.”
